Motion Control for the BOSS XS-100 Poly Shifter Introduction Film

When Boss Audio Systems unveiled their latest innovation — the XS-100 Poly Shifter — they needed an introduction film that matched the energy, precision and performance of the product itself. Led by director Nick Gordon and shot at Calvert Studios, the production called for visuals that felt just as expressive as the sound.

The XS-100 Poly Shifter redefines pedal-based pitch shifting with groundbreaking BOSS technology, and our role was to bring that innovation to life through dynamic, programmable camera movement.

A Shared Stage, A Flexible Solution

One of the biggest challenges on this production was space. The stage at Calvert Studios was shared across multiple camera teams and setups throughout the day, which meant we needed a motion control system that was fast to reposition, quick to recalibrate and totally reliable under pressure.

This is where the nimble, modular nature of our motion control setup really proved its worth. We were able to:

  • Rapidly swap physical positions between other camera units

  • Rebuild and reprogram moves on the fly

  • Maintain precise repeatability even after multiple resets

That flexibility kept the entire production moving without disruption — a huge advantage when multiple departments are rotating through the same stage environment.

Syncing Motion to Music with Lensmaster by Camerabotics

One of the standout creative tools on this project was the audio track feature inside Lensmaster.

Rather than programming camera moves purely by eye, we were able to drive motion directly from the performance music track itself. This allowed us to:

  • Sync camera movement to specific beats and musical accents

  • Visually enhance key moments in the guitarist’s performance

  • Create a much tighter relationship between sound and motion

The result is subtle but powerful — camera movement that doesn’t just look dynamic, but feels musically connected to the product.

Performance Meets Precision

The motion control system was used across two distinct visual styles for the film:

1. Live Performance Movement
We captured dynamic, expressive camera movement as the XS-100 Poly Shifter was being actively used by a guitarist. These shots brought energy, rhythm and realism to the performance sequences.

2. Hero Product Cinematography
Between performance takes, the same system was quickly reconfigured for controlled hero shots — revealing the product’s design, finish and form with precision and repeatability.

Being able to transition between performance-driven movement and clean product cinematography without rebuilding the entire rig saved both time and budget, while keeping visual quality consistently high.

The Result

The finished Introduction Film delivers:

  • Fluid camera movement driven by music

  • High-end, repeatable hero product visuals

  • A seamless blend of performance and technical precision

More importantly, it showcases the XS-100 Poly Shifter exactly as intended — expressive, innovative and engineered to a world-class standard.

It was a pleasure collaborating with Boss Audio Systems on this launch, working under the direction of Nick Gordon and shooting at the ever-impressive Calvert Studios — a perfect blend of creative vision, technical execution and production efficiency.
